The delivery of healthcare is a strange business. It is a unique business because of a number of factors. These factors include: the patient (or customer) is receiving a service but most of the time is not the one paying the bill; the expectations of the patient for an encounter may differ from those of the provider; the provider of the service cannot guarantee results even when everything was done right; and the provider of the service may provide quality care yet have a dissatisfied customer.

We are extremely disappointed and surprised that Network Health Plan leaders were non-committal in our meeting Thursday regarding a contract extension through Dec. 31, 2016. ThedaCare has had an offer on the table for more than a year to extend our contract with Network Health Plan. We urged Network Health Plan to meet earlier on this matter, but they requested a week’s delay. Throughout, we negotiated in good faith, desiring to extend within the existing terms of the contract.

That was not our intent. ThedaCare is focused on making health care better for consumers, patients, families and communities. We are committed to improving the health of the communities we serve. In that spirit, I want to keep you current on the status of our effort to secure a contract extension with Network Health Plan.
