Our History
ThedaCare Medical Center-Shawano is devoted to improving the health and well-being of the community. It is a commitment that began with the opening of the Shawano Municipal Hospital in 1931 and has grown to include nationally recognized 24-hour emergency, walk-in and family birth care.
Our Community Impact
We believe that a person’s health is not only impacted by the health care system but also the world around them. That is why ThedaCare continues to partner with organizations throughout Shawano and its surrounding communities to support initiatives that make a difference to individuals and their families, including:
- Helping to meet immediate and long-term needs for those facing joblessness and without stable housing (SAM25).
- Encouraging healthy activity through a safe network of pedestrian and bicycle trails throughout Shawano county and beyond (Shawano Pathways).
- Supporting early intervention services for infants and toddlers with developmental delays or disabilities (Shawano County Birth to 3).
Creating Positive Change
Every three years, ThedaCare conducts a health needs assessment of each of our seven hospital markets. Based on the results, plans are created to guide our work and address the most critical health challenges facing these communities we serve.
