Savor the Flavor of Eating Right

Healthy meals with less sodium can be great tasting and those attending the Diabetes Support Group at Berlin Memorial Hospital on March 10 and 11 will be treated to some flavorful recipes.

The Dopey Challenge

You’ve heard of Walt Disney World, but have you ever heard of the Dopey Challenge? It may have a silly name, but it’s actually a seriously tough four-day running event through all of the Disney Parks, consisting of a 5K, 10K, half marathon and full marathon. Two Berlin Memorial Hospital employees―Bill Bergthold, occupational therapist, and Frank McShane, CRNA as needed― completed the Dopey Challenge in January.

ThedaCare At Home’s sleep respiratory therapists will model the newest designs of sleep apnea masks at a free A.W.A.K.E. sleep mask style show on Tues., April 5, at The Grand Meridian in Appleton and on Tues., April 19, at Crystal Falls Banquet Center in New London.

Olympian Hyman Speaking in Neenah

Misty Hyman’s come-from-behind victory in the 200m butterfly was one of the highlights of the 2000 Sydney Olympics. After failing to make the 1996 Olympic team and facing defending champion Australian Susie O’Neill, many thought the best she could do was finish second. But by using her signature underwater dolphin kick, Hyman stunned everyone by winning gold. Hyman will share her inspiring journey from being a sickly child with asthma to standing atop the Olympic podium at a special presentation from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Sat., Jan. 30 at Shattuck Middle School Auditorium in Neenah.

Waupaca Diabetes Support Group Renamed

The Diabetic Education Department at ThedaCare Medical Center-Waupaca is switching things up a bit this New Year with its diabetes support group. The renamed Diabetes Adventure Group will offer meetings at off-site community locations like a grocery store, restaurant and apple orchard.

A free ThedaCare community program is designed to help people who suffer from knee pain and osteoarthritis. Brett Young, MD, orthopedic surgeon, with ThedaCare Orthopedic Care, will facilitate “Knee Pain/Osteoarthritis” on Thurs., Feb. 4.
