Early detection of skin cancer leads to the most successful outcomes. ThedaCare and Forefront Dermatology are offering a free skin cancer screening, intended primarily for individuals who are uninsured or under insured. Dr. Victoria Negrete will lead the screenings.

May 6 is National Nurse’s Day. The date is close to the birthday of Florence Nightingale, who is often given credit for establishing the nursing profession. Nightingale was a British woman best known for her service to British soldiers who were injured and sick in the war in Crimea in the mid-1800s. She is also credited with developing the idea for what we now know as a hospital.

The 30th Annual Fun Run, co-sponsored by ThedaCare Medical Center-Waupaca and Health and Fitness Headquarters, evokes several memories throughout the community. The event, celebrating its 30th year, will be Sat., May 7 at the Old Riverside School.

ThedaCare employees will offer activities, advice, and encouragement to promote healthy habits for students and their families during the second annual Good to Go initiative held April 25-29. More than 300 ThedaCare employees will span out to six Northeast Wisconsin elementary and intermediate schools to engage young people with special activities that may include leading a gym class, mindfulness practice, healthy snack options, playground games, and more.

This year a newly formed Fox Valley Advance Care Planning Partnership (FVACPP) is seeking your help to encourage people to complete Advance Directives. The FVACPP is a collaboration that includes Affinity/Ministry Health, ThedaCare, Mosaic Family Health (formerly UW Family Health Center), and the Advance Care Planning Coalition.

ThedaCare is expanding the SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) program at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Appleton on Fri., April 1, to offer more comprehensive coverage for victims. Nurses throughout ThedaCare will be trained for the SANE program. April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

The 7th Annual ThedaCare Foundation-New London Sturgeon Shuffle continues its mission to raise money to be used to support local community programs that improve the health and well-being of the communities. “This is a great event to get the entire family out to focus on a fun fitness activity,” said Heather Stern, executive director of the Foundation. “It's always a fun-filled day for all who attend."

Complete Health Improvement Program (CHIP) is designed to prevent and reverse the effects of diabetes, obesity, hypertension and high cholesterol. This ThedaCare program includes a before and after health assessment for total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides, fasting blood sugar, blood pressure and weight, a textbook, workbook, and food samples.
When the ThedaCare Foundation-Berlin board met last month, it was a unanimous vote to give their approval to the Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office grant application submitted by Sheriff Mark A. Podoll for funds for two K-9 units. The board agreed to give $14,000 to the department to become of the lead sponsors for the K-9 program.

ThedaCare Orthopedic Care is offering a new sports program for young male athletes looking to improve their health and strength. “Sports Programs for the Male Youth Athlete” is designed for boys age 11-13. The six-week course runs 5:45-7:15 p.m. on Tuesdays beginning April 5.
A prediabetes program returns March 28 to help patients keep diabetes at bay.
