“Kids are more likely to break things than sprain things,” says Dr. Douglas Connor of ThedaCare Orthopedic Care. “Kids are not just little adults. What might cause an ankle sprain in an adult is much more likely to cause a fracture in a child.”

Anna Horejs’ life changed forever last Nov. 15 on U.S. 10 in Waupaca County. Horejs, then a senior at Wauwatosa East High School, was driving her family’s van back after a visit at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point where she planned to attend college and study computer science and business this coming fall. Her vehicle, however, was hit head-on at highway speed by a driver going the wrong way on U.S. 10, leaving her with multiple serious injuries.
Dr. Kevin O’Donnell grew up in southern New Jersey in the Pine Barrens region, a heavily forested area of coastal plain that remarkably resembles northeastern Wisconsin in climate and foliage. “It’s not the New Jersey most people hear about. I grew up in a farming area and played baseball and soccer as a kid and football in high school.”
Amy Zafarani, DO, is now on the medical staff of ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Appleton and ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Neenah as an obstetrician and gynecologist. She is a member of the staff at Women’s Care of Wisconsin.
The Trauma Center at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Neenah has been reverified as a Level II trauma center for the seventh time, marking 26 years as the first and longest continuously verified Level II trauma center north of Milwaukee and Madison.
