ThedaCare Aids Kids Running Club

A Clintonville school running club is getting an extra kick start from ThedaCare. The Longfellow Running Club received a grant from ThedaCare’s Community Health Improvement to help fund the program, which brings students together twice a week before school for training runs.

Donation Helps to Save Lives

It started with a single donation by siblings Pat Prill and Jon Wilsnack of Markesan in memory of their father las March. It ended in early October with the delivery of 18 brand new automated external defibrillator (AED) units to the Green Lake County Sherrif’s Department—one for each emergency vehicle in the department’s force.

Pedometer Challenge Week 8 New London Mailman Racks Up the Miles

Since the Pedometer Challenge began the second week of February, no one has racked up more steps than Mark Hauser of New London. The secret to getting on average 186,000 steps during the past eight weeks? His job. He’s a mailman in New London, who works six days a week.

Thank Goodness

One can rarely watch the evening news without viewing a story about EMS workers risking harm to rescue someone in need. Countless human lives are saved every day because of the brave actions of our emergency first responders. Thank goodness for these selfless people who risk their own lives to save others!

IFR I Follow Roads

What does IFR mean? It is one of two types of flying we use and, it does not stand for “I Follow Roads,” unless the roads we are referring to are the invisible “Highways in the sky.” Technically, though, IFR stands for Instrument Flight Rules as opposed to the other, more common, type of flight that we use – Visual Flight Rules (VFR).

ThedaCare Class Opens Communication

Puberty opens the door to a lot of sensitive topics about growth and development. In April, a ThedaCare class at Riverside Medical Center (RMC) in Waupaca seeks to break down barriers so mothers and daughters can address these topics together.

ThedaCare Earns Grant to Attend Renown Depression Education Program

ThedaCare received a 2014 Perfect Depression Care Learning Community grant from the State of Wisconsin. ThedaCare Behavioral Health will use the grant money, which is provided by Wisconsin’s Division of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, to send two employees to a workshop at Henry Ford Health Systems in Detroit to learn more about their “Perfect Depression Care” initiative.

Ladies Night Out to Provide Functional Footwear Tips During Fashion Show

ThedaCare is offering a free educational evening filled with great fun, food and footwear and a fashion show with prizes. “Walk-This-Way Shoe Fashion Show with Dr. Kristen Kuratnick” will help women learn how to choose the right shoes for their feet. This free “girls’ night out” offers expert advice for functional footwear from Dr. Kuratnick, a foot and ankle specialist, and physical therapist Karen Ferris, both from ThedaCare Orthopedic Care.

Prediabetes Can Be Treated

Pre-diabetes is more prevalent than most people think. “It affects 35 percent of adults age 20 and older and half of Americans age 65 an older,” said Anne Menzies, Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator at Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca. People can learn more about the topic at an upcoming ThedaCare community presentation “Pre-Diabetes: What should I do?” at 6:30 p.m. on Thurs., April 3, in the lobby of the 900 building.
