Theda Clark Foundation Contributes 2 Million in Support of Regional Cancer Center

Theda Clark Medical Center Foundation has donated $2 million to help bring a new regional cancer center to the Appleton area. The contribution, made through the ThedaCare Family of Foundations Connect campaign, is a significant boost to ThedaCare’s commitment to provide patients and families with cancer care that respects their choices.

New Center will Transform Cancer Care for Patients and Families in the Region

Theda Clark Medical Center Foundation has donated $2 million to help bring a new regional cancer center to the Appleton area. The contribution, made through the ThedaCare Family of Foundations Connect campaign, is a significant boost to ThedaCare’s commitment to provide patients and families with cancer care that respects their choices.

The ThedaCare Regional Cancer Center, currently under construction in Appleton, will serve as the home base for the ThedaCare premier cancer care program. The program brings a team of top-talent care providers to the table, and offers a broad range of treatments, services, therapies and resources. These supportive services help patients and families maintain the life they enjoy.

“We’re grateful to the Theda Clark Medical Center Foundation for their generous donation,” said Dean High, chair of the Connect campaign.

A number of foundation board members and community leaders are assisting in the efforts to raise money for the center. A kick-off community event to raise awareness of the Connect campaign and the regional cancer center—Laughter is the Best Medicine—is scheduled for March 6 at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center. Community support will improve the patient experience and provide the little extras that mean the difference between surviving and thriving.

“Cancer touches or will touch one of two men and one of three women,” said Michael Waite, president of the Theda Clark Medical Center Foundation. “This disease is too big not to transform the way cancer care is delivered in our region, and our Foundation supports the mission of introducing a better way to offer care and support for people with cancer and their families.”

“The initial gifts we’ve received are substantial, but what’s important are the gifts we receive in the $100-$1,000 range from community members. It shows they support what’s important to them and what they value,” said High. When the cancer center opens, there will be new opportunities for people to get involved through volunteering.

Through community support, the regional cancer center will connect our many smaller communities to quality cancer services, providing a level of care not possible when fragmented into individual pieces.

The campaign has raised $5.1 million, which includes the Theda Clark Foundation contribution, a gift of $2 million from the Appleton Medical Center Foundation and an anonymous gift of $1 million from a community member. The campaign launched in November 2014 and plans to reach its goal of $7 million by year end.
