STURGEON SHUFFLE RUNNING STRONG

Annual New London Event Benefits Area Health Programs

Kayla Thorpe, office manager at Lawton Family Dentistry, looks forward to the annual ThedaCare Foundation-New London Sturgeon Shuffle. “It’s a great walk to kick off spring,” she said. “I love the fact that it is dog friendly and the route that we take in Hatten (Park) is always very nice.”

For the last four years, her office has participated as a whole group in the event. But Dr. Lawton’s support goes even longer, said Thorpe. “The fact that it supports our local hospital is the reason that we like to sponsor this event,” she said, noting the office plans a dental theme for this year’s event. “We try to support our local business as much as we can.”

Thorpe said the event also builds a sense of community. “I have seen this event grow in size over the past four years in all age groups,” she said. “I like to see all the faces from town or other local businesses. It’s nice to see us all out as a community together supporting our town in a healthy way.”

The Sturgeon Shuffle, now in its eighth year, will be on Sat., April 22. The 10K route will run along County X, west of New London, paralleling the Wolf River. The return portion of the course will take the runners, and walkers, along the Sturgeon Trail, where participants could catch site of the unique running of the sturgeon. The 5K Run/Walk winds through New London’s beautiful Hatten Park. The event is stroller and dog friendly.

“We are thrilled to continue this incredible event here in New London during one of the most distinctive times of the year; the annual sturgeon run,” said Heather Stern, foundation regional development director. “Whether you’re a competitive runner or just looking for a nice morning walk with friends, this is a fantastic and unique event you don’t want to miss.”

Proceeds from the Sturgeon Shuffle benefit ThedaCare Foundation-New London whose mission is to inspire giving to help create exceptional healthcare experiences in the areas served by ThedaCare Medical Center-New London.

Registration starts at 8 a.m. at New London Middle School and the race starts at 9:30 a.m. The early bird entry fee is $25 for an individual, $15 for age 14 and under and $80 for a team of four. The fee increases after April 1.

Each pre-registered participant will receive an event shirt if registered before March 17. A team challenge awards teams with the lowest combined times and best costumes.
