ThedaCare Welcomes Oncology Physician Leader

ThedaCare welcomes Matthias Weiss, MD, who will serve as the oncology physician leader at ThedaCare Medical Oncology, which is located within Appleton Medical Center. He will provide specialty care in hematology.

ThedaCare welcomes Matthias Weiss, MD, who will serve as the oncology physician leader at ThedaCare Medical Oncology, which is located within Appleton Medical Center. He will provide specialty care in hematology.

Dr. Weiss received his medical degree from the University of Freiburg and Heidelberg in Germany and completed fellowship training in hematology and oncology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. He completed a residency program at Gundersen Clinic in LaCrosse and an internship at Military Hospital in Osnabrück, Germany. Dr. Weiss has served in many leadership roles for his clinical research as a community oncologist, including positions with the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the University of Rochester Cancer Center (URCC) and Academic and Community Cancer Research United (ACCRU).

Dr. Weiss was also among the top 25 accruers in the United States for NCI-sponsored clinical trials in 2012 and 2013 and received the NCI Platinum Award. He is a member of the American Society of Oncology, the American Society of Hematology and the Wisconsin Medical Society.

Outside of work, Dr. Weiss keeps active through biking, cross-country skiing and other sports. He also enjoys traveling to new places and spending quality time with his family.
