ThedaCare™ is one of a select group of companies to earn the designation of “Green Professional,” in the Green Masters Program established by the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council. As a Green Professional, ThedaCare has demonstrated continued commitment to sustainability in the business sector.

“The Green Masters Program allows us to recognize the outstanding work ThedaCare is conducting in order to fully incorporate sustainability into its business model,” said Tom Eggert, Executive Director, Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council. “The Green Professional status shows the standards to which ThedaCare holds itself to and the possibilities moving forward.”

“ThedaCare strives to be a healthcare sustainability leader through the reduction or elimination of energy and water usage and the amount of material sent to landfills,” said Paul Linzmeyer, Corporate Sustainability Manager, ThedaCare. “We joined the Green Masters Program to work, compare and promote sustainable practices with other organizations in Wisconsin.”

An example of ThedaCare’s sustainability progress includes the company’s initiative to increase the percentage of locally sourced food in their facilities by working with growers as well as companies involved in the distribution and supply chain. ThedaCare has a proven track record with its lean and quality healthcare initiatives and will expand that role to combine evidence-based design to help the organization achieve excellence in environmental impacts.

Linzmeyer went on to state, “ThedaCare’s mission is to improve the health of our communities and one way to do that is through the use of less water and energy and the creation of less waste. By adopting sustainable principles and practices, we will be better able to educate employees and the community and share what we’re doing along our sustainability journey.”

ThedaCare is a community health system consisting of five hospitals: Appleton Medical Center, Theda Clark Medical Center, New London Family Medical Center, Shawano Medical Center, and Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca. ThedaCare also includes ThedaCare Physicians, ThedaCare Behavioral Health, ThedaCare At Work, and ThedaCare at Home. ThedaCare is the largest employer in Northeast Wisconsin with more than 6,175 employees.

Applicants to the Green Masters Program are judged on a comprehensive range of sustainability issues, from energy to water use to educational outreach and governance. More than 125 Wisconsin businesses are participating in the program where the top twenty percent achieve the highest “Green Master” designation.
