Leading Legal Department and Supporting ThedaCare’s Mission to Improve Community Health and Well-Being
ThedaCare leaders are pleased to announce Paul Van Den Heuvel, JD, will join ThedaCare as Chief Legal Strategist. In this role, Paul Van Den Heuvel will lead ThedaCare’s legal department, providing counsel on the development of strategic partnerships, new ventures and growth opportunities that align with the ThedaCare mission of improving the health and well-being of communities served. He will also lead the risk management and compliance functions for the system.

Van Den Heuvel has more than 25 years of experience in health care and health insurance, providing expertise in law, business development, strategy and negotiation. Prior to joining ThedaCare, he served as Vice President of Network Strategy and Interim Executive Director for Aspirus Network, Inc. in Wausau, Wisconsin. He also served as Vice President of Strategic and Legal Affairs for Mercy Health Corporation, Associate General Counsel for Marshfield Clinic, health care business development and regulatory compliance consultant through his own company, and legal counsel and Director for Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Wisconsin.

Born and raised in Appleton with deep family roots in the Fox Valley, Van Den Heuvel received a Juris Doctorate from Marquette University Law School and a Bachelor of Arts in history. He has served as Vice Chair of the American Health Lawyers Association ACO Task Force and Vice Chair of In-House Counsel Practice Group, and was the recipient of the 2019 First Chair Award, Top General Counsel.
Van Den Heuvel will begin his role at ThedaCare on Monday, March 21, 2022.
