ThedaCare Leaders Inspire Everyone to Play Role to Make Area Healthier
Officials at both New London Family Medical Center and ThedaCare, the community health system that operates the 25-bed hospital, jointly announced their intention today to rename New London Family Medical Center to ThedaCare Medical Center-New London. The independent local hospital moved to its current location in 1930 and affiliated with ThedaCare in April 2000. The announcement was made at today’s ThedaCare Community Conversation in at Crystal Falls Banquet Hall.
“It makes a lot of sense to position the hospital in New London as a part of ThedaCare’s vast regional health care resources and expertise,” said Bill Schmidt, president and CEO of New London Family Medical Center. “ThedaCare Medical Center-New London reflects how tightly integrated the hospital has become with the physician clinic and other hospitals in the ThedaCare system,” he said.
According to Brian Burmeister, Senior Vice President for Primary Care & Rural Campuses at ThedaCare, the new name for the medical center will also tie the facility to opportunities like ThedaCare’s new membership in the Mayo Clinic Care Network. As a member, ThedaCare specialists can electronically consult with Mayo Clinic specialists and access their research database for input and advice on complex patient cases. The goal is to provide the expertise of Mayo Clinic physicians without patients having to travel out of the area. “Over the next several months, ThedaCare will be actively promoting this valuable new benefit to our patients and specialists. So many of the services we can offer families in New London are a result of their affiliation with ThedaCare in 2000. The name change will make that transition complete.”
The process of changing the hospital’s name began back in September with discussions between the ThedaCare Senior Leadership Team and the governing board of New London Family Medical Center. ThedaCare Physicians, local officials and foundation executives were invited into the conversation.
According to Burmeister, the name will officially change and community members will see new signs on the buildings in spring of 2014.
ThedaCare™ is a community health system consisting of five hospitals: Appleton Medical Center, Theda Clark Medical Center, New London Family Medical Center, Shawano Medical Center, and Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca.
