Following a routine mammogram, I was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer. I never even felt it until they found it. Several women I work with have had breast cancer, so my support system was phenomenal. My co-workers told me that the best of the best is Dr. Bermas. They were right. She put me with Dr. Weiss and also Dr. Krueger for radiation. These three physicians made up my cancer team, and they are just the best. I couldn’t ask for more.
I love that Dr. Weiss came here once a week with his team and I didn’t have to travel to Appleton for chemo. He was so patient with me, and so were my chemo nurses. They took such great care of me. Those girls made it for me. My husband was so supportive and my sons would always call after every chemo treatment to see how I was doing.
Throughout the yearlong journey, my Boxer, Max was right by my side. I think animals can sense things, and he would not leave my side. I got the all-clear that I was cancer-free on a Wednesday, and on Sunday, Max died. I think he just knew I was okay.
