They say a picture is worth 1000 words, but for Christy, lead ultrasound technologist knows that sometimes it’s worth even more. “The images I take help physicians diagnose and treat patients,” said Christy. “I know that clear images can make a significant difference in a patient’s life and it makes me happy to know I had a small part in helping them.”
Christy was just 16 when she became fascinated with ultrasound technology. “I went with my mother, saw the images and asked lots of questions. I couldn’t wait for the day when I could learn to use the technology,” she continued. “When you’re getting an ultrasound, you’re in close quarters with a patient who can see everything you’re doing. Sometimes my job is to comfort them through the process. I love talking with them, helping them understand what they’re seeing on the screen.”
She’s also passionate about her team at ThedaCare. “When I interned at ThedaCare 12 years ago, I couldn’t wait to work with such a wonderful team,” said Christy. “When I graduated, they didn’t have a position available, so I temporarily commuted to a Milwaukee-area health system. I was thrilled to get a call from my supervisor at ThedaCare that a position opened up, and I am so happy to be here.”
Ten years later, she feels the same way. “Ultrasound is a small world. You really get to know each other. Whenever someone needs something, they step right in and make sure you’re taken care of. The physicians and radiologists we work with are such nice people. If I had to choose one word to describe the feeling of working at ThedaCare, it’s family.”
Christy is based at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center- Neenah, but also helps patients at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center- Appleton, Encircle Health and ThedaCare Physicians – Oshkosh.
