Expanding Access to Expert, Local Cancer Care

With the vision of enhancing comprehensive cancer care for Northeast and Central Wisconsin, ThedaCare announced today that it has signed an agreement with the intent to acquire the assets of the physician group Fox Valley Hematology & Oncology, S.C. (“FVHO”) by June 4, 2018.

“ThedaCare is committed to our mission of improving the health of the communities we serve,” said Imran Andrabi, MD, president and CEO of ThedaCare. “By combining the world-class talent of ThedaCare and FVHO, patients and their families can be confident in knowing they have access to highly specialized cancer care experts and advanced technology along their journey of care, right here in the communities we serve.”

The agreement includes the acquisition of assets and the employment of providers and staff.

“Fox Valley Hematology & Oncology has a long-standing relationship with ThedaCare hospitals,” said Timothy Goggins, MD, physician and an owner at FVHO. “We have been caring for patients in Northeast Wisconsin since 1990, respecting each patient as a person with unique issues, hopes and needs. This acquisition allows us to continue to provide advanced care close to where many of our patients call home, keeping what’s best for our patient at the center of each treatment plan.”

For existing patients at FVHO and ThedaCare Cancer Care, the organizations’ leadership understands relationships with doctors and entire care teams are personal. “This is especially true for patients and families on their journey through cancer care,” Dr. Andrabi said. “We are committed to providing as seamless a transition as possible, continued care in your community, and considering the patient experience in every decision as we finalize this agreement.”

Bringing the two organizations together will enhance access to care for the patients in the communities where they live, especially in the rural areas where ThedaCare will be offering cancer care multiple days per week.

Patients will benefit with having their doctors involved in their care sharing information and collectively making the best decision regarding care and treatment planning. “The ultimate goal will be improved clinical and emotional patient outcomes through navigation, early detection and prompt, appropriate treatment,” said Dr. Goggins.

The acquisition of the assets of the FVHO physician group has been reviewed and approved by the ThedaCare Board of Trustees. As business owners and community leaders, board members recognize this decision will expand access to expert, local cancer care and also lower total cost of care over time.
