Nursing is a calling for Jami

Imagine yourself sitting in a high school classroom and knowing exactly what you want to do with your life.

Imagine yourself sitting in a high school classroom and knowing exactly what you want to do with your life. Jami Schoenborn knew that nursing was her life’s passion in her teens. While in high school, she became a certified nursing assistant (CNA) and never looked back.

Today, Jami is a nurse practitioner in internal medicine for ThedaCare at Encircle Health in Appleton. “I enjoy spending time with patients and helping them improve the quality of their lives,” said Jami. “The most important thing I do every day is to make sure our patients know they are heard, that we care about their well-being.”

Jami’s days are busy. She works primarily with patients with chronic illnesses, monitoring their health and creating a plan to help the patients live a healthy life.

She also helps people with acute illnesses. “I conduct physicals and pre-op exams, treat high cholesterol and high blood pressure – you name it, we see it,” she continued. “Every 30 to 60 minutes throughout the day, I see a different patient and each person is unique. No two days are the same, which is something I love. My goal is the same for everyone – to help every patient meet their goals for the visit. It’s gratifying to know that I am making a difference in their lives.”

She’s equally passionate about her co-workers at ThedaCare. “I started working for ThedaCare as a CNA in college,” continued Jami. “When I received my masters in nursing, I applied again because it was such a great place to work. We have each other’s backs. Everyone is friendly and open and they truly want to see you succeed. When I went back to school to get my doctorate, everyone was so helpful. They’re helping me with clinical case studies, accommodating my schedule and so much more. My co-workers make each day better.”
