Kary Cappaert Finds An Extended Family at ThedaCare

When Kary Cappaert started her nursing training in Escanaba, Mich., she knew several things. First, she wanted to do something to help people. And second, she wanted a job where no two days were the same. More than 15 years later, her wishes were granted when she became a nurse practitioner at ThedaCare Physicians–Shawano earlier this year.

When Kary Cappaert started her nursing training in Escanaba, Mich., she knew several things. First, she wanted to do something to help people. And second, she wanted a job where no two days were the same. More than 15 years later, her wishes were granted when she became a nurse practitioner at ThedaCare Physicians-Shawano earlier this year.

“Every day is different,” said Kary. “I have my own patients, helping them manage their chronic diseases and acute cases. I really enjoy talking with my patients, learning about their lives and helping to make their lives better.”

Helping patients in Shawano isn’t new to Kary. She was a nurse in the community for the past 12 years and just recently received her nurse practitioner license. “The support from the other providers at ThedaCare has been fantastic. They have been very encouraging, and are always helpful when I have questions. I also appreciate all the support from ThedaCare. It’s a great place to work. There is a wonderful sense of camaraderie. The staff is so welcoming.”

Kary admits she was hesitant to move to small-town Wisconsin, but is happy she did. “I always saw myself living in a larger community, but my husband accepted a teaching position in Shawano, so this is where we decided to live and work. Working in Shawano is a great experience. I love getting to know the community, especially the families that I am able to work with as their provider.
