A new facility will bring improved skilled nursing services to Berlin area residents.

Community Health Network and ThedaCare are building a 37-bed skilled nursing facility to replace the aging Juliette Manor. The public is invited to attend the groundbreaking for the facility at 5 p.m. on Tues., Aug. 4 at the site of new facility just northwest of Berlin Memorial Hospital on Oak Street.

The new Juliette Manor is designed around its residents’ needs, blending state-of-the-art medical services with a quiet, natural setting so residents feel like they are at home, said Juliette Manor Administrator Tina Marchan.

“The serene and homelike environment reflected in the design adds to resident comfort and promotes a better sense of healing,” she said. “The design also maintains line-of-sight to all residents at all times allowing for the fastest possible service and response.”

Marchan said the new facility’s design also reflects its rural surroundings and is representative of a classic home in the country including lots of natural lighting, exposed wood and high ceilings. She added there will be large, open spaces for dining and leisure activities along with outdoor courtyards with walking and wheelchair trails. The facility will provide care for short-term rehab residents, stable long-term care residents and memory care.

“A new and improved nurse call system and security system will allow for better service and optimal resident safety whether they are inside or outside,” Marchan said.

The new facility is being built on the northwest corner of the Community Health Network campus in Berlin, just off of Oak Street. Occupancy is planned for summer of 2016. Boldt Construction of Appleton is the project’s general contractor.

“Moving the nursing home closer to the hospital, orthopedic services and other ancillary services will offer patients a full continuum of care on one campus. Many areas of health care support the needs of nursing home residents and the close proximity will make it more convenient for our residents to get any additional services that they may need,” Marchan said.

When ThedaCare and CHN affiliated in June 2014, the agreement included a pledge by the Appleton-based organization to replace Juliette Manor, which is more than 50 years old. Bill Mann, senior vice president for ThedaCare, praised CHN’s commitment to providing high-quality skilled nursing care to area residents.

“Nursing home services are limited in this geographical area and yet the current and projected population continues to identify a market need,” he said. “Nursing home and rehabilitation services are important elements in the continuum of care for patients residing in this area and will be offered through the new facility.”
