ThedaCare Cancer Care will Integrate Cancer Services at One Location
In its continued commitment to patients and the community, ThedaCare today announced plans to build a new regional cancer center in Appleton. The details of the $44 million project were approved at the Oct. 21 meeting of the ThedaCare Board of Trustees. The new facility will be built on land ThedaCare owns near the Encircle Health campus on Capitol Drive.
“We are in the early stages of designing the new cancer center,” said Dean Gruner, president and CEO of ThedaCare. “We recognized a need to make cancer care more convenient for patients and their families. The new regional oncology center will provide a full spectrum of care, including some of the most advanced cancer treatments and therapies available.”
Dr. Matthias Weiss, oncology physician for ThedaCare Medical Oncology, said the new center will be designed around providing team-based, collaborative care that cancer patients and their families need while they’re going through their cancer journeys. Collaboration is key, according to Dr. Weiss. “All areas of expertise – oncology, behavioral health, nutrition, therapy, and more – will be available in one location, focusing on putting the patient and family’s needs first,” he said.
“Time is so valuable, especially when you’re facing a life-threatening disease like cancer,” he noted. “Our goal is to make it easy for our patients to maintain family life and daily routines while going through their treatments, instead of wasting time shuffling from specialist to specialist.”
“The ThedaCare Cancer Center is being designed for the future,” added Dr. Weiss. “It will provide all of our community’s cancer treatment needs and expand our participation in clinical cancer trials, as well as give us the capacity to meet future needs.”
The Boldt Co. of Appleton is the project’s general contractor and construction manager and HGA Architects and Engineers of Milwaukee is the architect. The project should be complete in 2016.
