Kathryn Hanson Cares for Patients across Entire Life Spectrum
Kathryn Hanson greatly enjoys helping patients and families maximize their health and minimize impact of illness. “In my mind, it’s a real privilege to be able to help people in a significant and personal way” she said.
Hanson, who joined ThedaCare Physicians-New London earlier this spring as an advanced practice nurse practitioner, provides family care to patients across the entire life spectrum. “I manage chronic problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure, provide acute/urgent care, as well as provide health promotion and wellness exams,” she said. “Most things the average family doctor can do.”
Hanson worked with ThedaCare on the resource team, filling in at all the ThedaCare clinics wherever there was a need for a provider. One of those clinics was in New London. “They are a really great team to work with” she said.
When an opening became available and she was asked to join, she stepped up right away. “The practice is very well run,” she said. “I am impressed with the high quality of care provided in this rural setting. I also enjoy being more trained on the hospital side of things. It gets me back into the in-patient setting, which I have always enjoyed.”
Hanson believes in educating her patients. “I believe Advanced Practice NP training is a little more holistic than the purely medical model,” she said “I think we place a lot of emphasis on listening to the patient as well as providing care and education. It’s a more global approach, if you will.”
By empowering her patients, they can improve their own health outcomes, she added. “I want to give my patients the best information I possibly can so they can make the best decisions regarding their own health, or to make optimal decisions in their stead if they are not able, or willing, to make their own decisions. I value the whole human being and am blessed to be able to participate in their lives. I look forward to my time here in TCP New London.”
