Clintonville Native Providing Care

Sara Messner (Mitchell) is very familiar with the doctor’s office at ThedaCare Physicians-Clintonville. “It’s the clinic I always had care at,” said Messner, 26, a Clintonville native. She is thrilled to return to her hometown as a physician assistant to provide the same quality of care she remembers receiving while growing up. “I enjoy being able to see multiple generations of a family,” said Messner. “People come in and they know my parents or my family.”

Messner’s husband also has family in Clintonville. While the couple does not live in the town currently, they hope to move back to the area soon. “That’s our big picture goal,” she said.

Messner earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and her Master of Physician Assistant Studies degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. A certified health education specialist, she belongs to the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Wisconsin Academy of Physician Assistants. “It’s nice to get back into the small-town feel of things,” she said. “I like a lot of things about the practice. Even though it is a small town practice, it’s well connected to places in the Valley if patients need additional resources.”

Messner enjoys working in family medicine and the variety of patients and issues she can address. She believes in treating the whole person. Messner’s health education background helps patients with preventative care and lifestyle modification. “I think it’s just a good foundation to make sure you’re starting to take care of your whole self,” she said. “It sets you up for a healthy lifestyle and to make good choices.”
