Dr. Kay Theyerl Helping Others Live Heart Healthy

APPLETON, Wis. – ThedaCare and the American Heart Association are proud to announce that Kay Theyerl, MD, MS, FACP, AIHM, ACLM will serve as the 2020 Fox Cities Go Red for Women Chair. Dr. Theyerl is a board-certified internist and fellow of the American College of Physicians. She currently serves as Medical Director of ThedaCare Lifestyle Medicine and Medical Director for ThedaCare at Work Onsite Services.

She has dedicated her career to caring for patients with chronic disease. Her passion is integrating lifestyle medicine into traditional medicine to not only prevent and treat chronic disease, but to potentially reverse it, improving overall health and well-being. In addition to her board certification in Internal Medicine, she is board certified in Integrative Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine.

She understands the devastating impact that heart disease can have on individuals and their families. It impacted her own family when her mother suffered a heart attack at age 53.

In her early career, Dr. Theyerl was introduced to the concept of lifestyle as medicine and saw its powerful effects to prevent, treat and reverse chronic disease, particularly heart disease. She introduced her parents to the power of lifestyle change and witnessed their transformation after her mother’s heart attack.

After 25 years, Dr. Theyerl has returned to this area, where she grew up. Now that she has settled back into the community, she aims to give back and incorporate her passion for all things heart and lifestyle. Go Red for Women represents a powerful way to engage the community to help transform heart health and she is honored to help inform others.

Dr. Theyerl received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and earned her master’s degree in preventive and rehabilitative cardiovascular health from George Williams College in Illinois. She earned her medical degree at Milwaukee’s Medical College of Wisconsin and then completed an internal medicine residency at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center.

The 2020 Fox Cities Go Red for Women event will take place on Friday, February 7 at Bridgewood Resort Hotel in Neenah. For more information, click here.
