THEDACARE CLINICS RECOGNIZED FOR EFFORTS TO VACCINATE CHILDREN

Four Locations Receive Honor

APPLETON, Wis. – Four ThedaCare clinics have been named recipients of the “Big Shot” award by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) and county health departments. The “Big Shot” award is given to health care providers who show excellence in protecting children and teens against vaccine-preventable diseases through strong immunization practices and high immunization rates.

“This recognition from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services is extremely gratifying,” said Dr. Jennifer Frank, Chief Medical Officer of the ThedaCare Clinically Integrated Network. “We believe good health starts early with vaccines to protect children from a host of diseases. It’s a responsibility all of us at ThedaCare take very seriously.”

The locations recognized include ThedaCare Physicians-Appleton West, ThedaCare Physicians-Darboy, ThedaCare Physicians-Kimberly and ThedaCare Physicians–Berlin EastRidge. The recognition is given to those clinics which vaccinate 90 percent or more of their young patients based on immunization data collected for 24-36-month-olds.

“We are honored to receive this award and at ThedaCare, we hold ourselves to an even higher standard,” said Dr. Frank. “Our system goal is to reach the threshold in order to prevent vaccine-preventable diseases from affecting our patient population, known as herd immunity.”

With the current outbreak of measles taking place across the country, Dr. Frank explains if enough people in the community are vaccinated, more people can be protected.

“Childhood vaccinations are critical to protect our children and everyone around them from diseases like measles, mumps, rubella and pertussis among others,” said Dr. Frank. “All team members at ThedaCare are diligent in helping to keep our children and communities healthy.”
