When Jimmy Barman joined ThedaCare Regional Medical Center – Neenah as a certified nursing assistant (CNA) two years ago, he came from more than six years helping patients in nursing homes in the Neenah community. He welcomed the opportunity to work with a variety of patients (surgical, medical rehabilitation and behavioral health) in his new position.

“I enjoy helping people,” said Jimmy. “I’m lucky because I get to work on all the floors at the hospital. Every day is different. My goal is to make each person smile. It’s the best part of my day.”

Jimmy shifted careers six years ago when he was downsized from the paper industry. “The medical field is booming, so it really made sense for me to find a career with many opportunities close to home.”

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, nursing assistant employment is projected to grow by 17 percent through 2024, much faster than the average for all occupations. Because of the growing elderly population, many nursing assistants will be needed to assist and care for these patients.

But for Jimmy, his primary goal was an opportunity to help others. “From helping patients with their meals, walking the halls, helping them bath and more, I know I’m making a difference in their lives,” said Jimmy. “It’s awesome.”

He said ThedaCare is a great place to work because they care about their employees as much as they care about the patients. “It’s nice to be appreciated. If you care about other people and like lots of variety, ThedaCare would be a great place for you, too.”
