ThedaCare’s Advanced Practice Clinician Fellowship
At ThedaCare, we understand and honor the vital role nurse practitioners and physician assistants play in caring for patients. That led us to create the Advanced Practice Clinician Fellowship in Primary Care. The program provides additional education, support, and resources to NPs and PAs as they transition to practice and continue to grow in their careers.
The APC Fellowship enhances the clinical experience for NPs and PAs. Through the program, participants engage in high-quality experiences designed to help them grow, learn, and thrive in their careers. In the long run, this benefits APCs as well as the patients and communities they serve.

Program Details, Application Process & Contact Information
Housed within ThedaCare Physicians-Appleton Gateway, the APC Fellowship program facilitates an APC’s transition to practice by promoting teaching, maturation, and lifelong learning. The experience includes the opportunity for direct 1:1 teaching with a faculty member (MD, NP, PA) for a 12-month program that includes evidenced-based learning, advanced concepts in coding, and population health. The learner will complete the 12-month program with an expanded clinical experience, the ability to critically assess self-knowledge, and access to evidenced-based point-of-care resources.
Through the program, participants will:
- Learn evidenced-based best practices in chronic disease management and primary care.
- Study principles of population health, network integrity, and resource stewardship.
- Complete core curriculum, including a 12-month didactic series, concepts of pre- and post-test probability, and motivational interviewing.
- Learn to optimize practice workflow to better achieve work-life balance.
- Engage in process improvement and feedback.
- Receive and incorporate faculty and APC Task Force feedback to become a stronger clinician and lifelong learner with a growth mindset in a dynamic and changing health care environment.
- Participate in quarterly learning days that also serve as continuing medical education. These experiences include hands-on learning and leadership skills development.
- Serve as an ambassador for future APC Fellowship programing.
The program begins new cohorts each May and November. Four spots are available in each cohort.
The ideal candidate for the APC Fellowship is a new graduate NP or PA, or one who’s within one to two years of graduation. Candidates must have finished a masters-level degree as an APC. No prior clinical experience is required.
The next open cohort is May 2026. To inquire about applying, please contact Kristen Stumpf, Provider Recruiter, at kristen.stumpf@thedacare.org.
