ThedaCare and Neuroscience Group are pleased to announce the grand opening of the region’s only comprehensive health center specializing in orthopedic, spine and pain care, ThedaCare Medical Center-Orthopedic, Spine and Pain. Providers, surgeons, athletic trainers, therapists and other clinicians will begin delivering care there on Monday, July 25, 2022.

ThedaCare Medical Center-Orthopedic, Spine and Pain includes a medical office building, specialty surgery center, and an in-patient hospital, as well as support services for total patient care. The hospital consists of operating suites which are designed for orthopedic, spine and pain surgery, 25 inpatient beds, and support services such as imaging, therapy, lab, pharmacy and dining.
The 240,000 sq. ft. facility is located at 2400 E. Capitol Drive Appleton, WI 54911, adjacent to the Regional Cancer Center and Encircle Health. Crews broke ground in August 2020.
Focusing on the Patient and Family Experience
The facility’s design was led by providers and nursing teams, along with ancillary and support staff.
“We believe so strongly in what our experts can do, we asked them to design a new hospital completely dedicated to better movement for life,” said Tom Arquilla, ThedaCare Chief Strategy Officer. “The teams have worked diligently to provide guidance and support, while creating a comfortable, soothing environment that will allow health teams to provide the best care for patients and families.”
The center brings together specialty care teams and services – at a single destination, with the vision of minimizing patient recovery times and ultimately improving the lives of those living in the region.
“This medical center was built to provide people in Northeast and Central Wisconsin with the most optimal relief and recovery,” said Dr. Steven Price, Chief Medical Officer of Neuroscience Group. “Community members will find options ranging from outpatient procedures to full inpatient care, when the need arises. We are working collaboratively to coordinate care around patients in all stages of life and recovery.”
Distinct experiences at ThedaCare Medical Center-Orthopedic, Spine and Pain include:
In-patient
Coordinated care will help patients and care teams plan for an individualized approach to surgery and recovery. Through new technology, family members can stay informed and updated regarding the plan of care.
Walk-in Orthopedic Services
Patients will have access to walk-in care for minor orthopedic injuries, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Infusion
Intravenous infusion will be available to patients in the Pain Medicine Program, expanding access to these services in the Fox Valley area.
Sports Therapy
Regulation pitching mounds, football tackler and a basketball court are on site to personalize therapy for athletes.
Labs
A wide-range of testing can be performed onsite while using the latest technology to quickly and efficiently provide test results to patients. Lab collections will be performed during clinic and imaging appointments, which means patients will not need to move to other areas to have their labs drawn.
Discharge Meals
Patients will be offered a prepacked meal to take home following surgery.
Registration
Patients can pre-register themselves prior to coming to the clinic or facility, which will quicken check-in time. Patients also have the ability to check themselves in at kiosk stations.
Surgery
Robotic-assisted surgery systems will be available for minimally invasive surgery with faster recovery and better outcomes
Home Simulation
A simulation apartment will allow patients and their families to complete therapy to prepare for life post-discharge. Patients can practice what it will be like to use a kitchen or restroom after surgery and rehabilitation, ensuring they feel comfortable when returning home.
Water Therapy
On site, a warm-water therapy pool can help increase mobility and decrease pain and pressure during rehabilitation.
Pharmacy
Once a person has met their hospital goals and are ready to transition to the next level of care, patients will be able to utilize the “meds-to-beds” program to ensure timely access to prescriptions. The retail pharmacy can fill medications for patients before they leave the facility. Pharmacy teams will deliver prescriptions to patient rooms or meet patients on their way out from an appointment.
“From on-site pharmacy to home medical equipment, we’ve made sure things are easy to access and taken care of, down to the very last detail, including dinner packed up and ready to go for those heading home after surgery,” said David Corso, Vice President of ThedaCare Medical Center-Orthopedic, Spine and Pain. “Our goal is to make comprehensive and coordinated care effortless for patients and families at a single destination through evaluation, diagnostics, surgery, rehabilitation and pain management.”

Throughout the project, ThedaCare and Neuroscience Group worked with construction partners, Miron Construction, HGA and Hplex Solutions. The teams have worked diligently to support the design and construction of the facility.
