Certain listening situations can make hearing difficult for some people. The free ThedaCare community program, “Can You Hear Me Now?” offers solutions for better hearing. It is presented by The Hearing Clinic of Ear, Nose and Throat Specialists of Wisconsin.
Paul Hoell, president of the medical staff and an anesthesiologist at New London Family Medical Center, has always had an interest in teaching.
Dealing with an injury to – or inflammation of – the rotator cuff can be very uncomfortable. People can attend a free ThedaCare presentation, “Shoulder Talk: Rotator Cuff Relief.” The program is focused on the pain and strain of the shoulder and attendees can learn about their options for relief. A question-and-answer session with Dr. Brett Young, orthopedic surgeon, will follow his presentation.

What started as a fun, annual event took on a special meaning for a Weyauwega family. For the last six years, Steve and Cindy Kramer have hosted a polar plunge in the small pond on their property on New Year’s Day. The event is attended by close family and friends, with several willing to take the plunge with the encouragement and support of those on shore. The clear, smooth natural ice of Millers Bay off Menominee Park in Oshkosh will soon be buzzing with youthful energy and the swish of ice skates on Thursdays after school until dusk. Dr. Eric Smiltneek, a family physician with ThedaCare Physicians-Oshkosh and a skating enthusiast, helped form a skate club for children in grades 3-8 from nearby Webster Stanley Elementary and Middle Schools.

In the last two weeks of December there were large drops in blood donations, but hospital patients still needed blood. This means the blood supply needs to be replenished, and donations given in the next few days and weeks are vital to this effort.

ThedaCare is offering a program designed for people who have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes, high blood sugar or high triglycerides. The four-part series provides education and support from a registered dietitian. People can learn how to prevent diabetes using lifestyle change.

After a night of drinking in 2007, Darcy Schehr spent the night at a friend’s house and thought she was safe to drive home the next morning. She was wrong. On the way home, she fatally hit a motorcyclist, 40-year-old Daniel Christ. When her blood alcohol level was checked at the hospital about two hours after the accident, it was .11 – well over the state level limit of .08.
