A group of New London community and business leaders are teaming up to encourage area employers to participate in a new Workplace Wellness Initiative.
People who love to run can attend a free ThedaCare session, “How to Run More Efficiently & Prevent Common Injuries,” to learn how to run more efficiently and to help prevent injury, especially as they transition from winter to spring/summer running.
A local school and a park will get new fitness equipment aimed at helping residents live healthier lives. ThedaCare recently made donations to both Huntley Elementary School in Appleton and the Town of Menasha to purchase new outdoor equipment.
ThedaCare announced today it will contribute $50,000 toward the construction of five new hoop houses at Riverview Gardens in support of the non-profit’s ServiceWorks job training program. Riverview Gardens was established in 2011 as a collaborative transformation of a 70-acre private golf course in downtown Appleton, into an urban farm, park and job-training program.
A free resource is available for people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and other diseases like asthma that affect breathing. The Air It Up Better Breathers Support Group meets monthly at Shawano Medical Center to provide information and support to people who have breathing problems.
Last fall, I came up with a project to change that – I wanted to get to know the members of the media who cover ThedaCare a little bit better and have them get to know me, too. And if I could help them improve their health a little bit – that was a bonus!
Twelve-year-old Jack Goerlinger recently received a wish through the Make-a-Wish Foundation. While he is extremely grateful, Jack said with uncanny honesty, “My real wish is that this never happened to me.” Jack has microscopic polyangiitis (MPA). The annual incidence of MPA is 3 cases per 1 million people.
The Riverside Health Foundation seeks applicants for the Boudry Memorial Scholarship, the Nancy Salan Memorial Nursing Scholarship, and the Isabelle Rowe Nursing Scholarship. The scholarships will be awarded in May 2012.

People interested in improving the quality of their life through better breathing can join a ThedaCare group in Shawano that offers the opportunity to learn ways to better cope with breathing issues. Monthly meetings feature speakers, Q&A and fun.
