Program Focuses On Foot and Ankle Pain Solutions

People rely on their feet every day. Sometimes they forget how much their feet do for them until they start to hurt. People can attend a free ThedaCare session on Tues., Oct. 7, “Living with Foot and Ankle Pain,” and learn about the latest surgical and non-surgical options to help their feet feel better. A question-and-answer session with Kristen Kuratnick Sandoe, MD, foot and ankle specialist; and JP Larson, PT; both of ThedaCare Orthopedic Care, will follow the talk.

Sondrol Committed to Triathlon Improving Health in Waupaca

I am proud to tell you about a person who has been committed improving health in the Waupaca community and making the best possible Waupaca Area Triathlon. Dean Sondrol, physical therapist and clinical lead at Riverside Medical Center for the past 19 years, has been involved with developing and improving the triathlon since it began 14 years ago. Dean serves as the course director and a member of the Board of Directors.

The New London area is attempting to battle obesity with the help of the New London Community Health Action Team (CHAT). A 2013 plunge into obesity indicated the community need to address obesity.

Drug Take Back Day in Waupaca County

More than 470 pounds of medicine were collected during a Drug Take Back Day in Waupaca County. The event stemmed from a September 2013 plunge into drugs and alcohol sponsored by the Waupaca Community Health Action Team, or CHAT.

Group Aims to Include Everyone

Chad Hershner has seen many people in the Fox Cities ready to embrace those in the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community. This lead to the formation of INCLUDE, during a breakfast with community members.

Weight of the Fox Valley a Heavy Issue

Obesity issues affect an individual and the community in which they live. Excess weight creates health problems leading to heart disease, cancer, diabetes, orthopedic difficulties and more. It can create mental health and self-esteem issues as well as limit worker productivity. Today obesity affects how buildings and transportation are designed.

Program Addresses Ongoing Back Pain

People afflicted by recurring back pain can learn about the common causes of back pains and strains and some treatment options at a free educational class offered by ThedaCare, in partnership with NeuroSpine Center of Wisconsin. The program, “Break Free From Back Pain,” will be led by orthopedic spine surgeon, David DeWitt, MD. Dr. DeWitt will review remedies for self-relief and discuss when it is time to get serious and seek treatment.

CHN Presents 15th Annual Night Out for Womens Health Event

Planning is underway for the 15th annual Community Health Network ‘Night Out for Women’s Health’ which will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at Pillsbury Hall on the grounds of the Green Lake Conference Center. This year’s event, titled “The Joy of Connection” will feature mental health counselor, author and humorist Mary Pierce, who will provide a humorous yet inspiring message about the importance of positive relationships. Pierce encourages all to attend, saying, “Girlfriends…sisters…mothers…daughters…We need each other! Our connections as women encourage us, energize us and for some of us, save our sanity! Let's laugh together as we celebrate the gifts of friendship and one another. Together, we can make it!”

Recreational Group Raising Money for New Trail System

In 2003, an unnamed group of bicyclists decided to form Cronies Trail Crew and advocate for local silent sports in the Waupaca area. Today, they have taken measures to build a trail system and are in the process of raising $40,000 for another system. “We are driven to develop and execute facilities for biking, running, hiking, snowshoeing and cross country skiing,” said Amanda Mann, Cronies Trail Crew board member.

Emergency room physician and runner Mark Westfall knows medical emergencies can happen at long-distance running events. That’s why he paired up with technology experts to create a quick response, or QR, code to help officials at this year’s Community First Fox Cities Marathon presented by Miron Construction get necessary health information in case of an emergency.
