Influenza is a respiratory illness caused by a virus. The virus causes symptoms of fever, sore throat, cough, headache and muscle aches usually two to three days after being exposed. The symptoms last about a week and in most cases resolve without treatment. There are medications that can be used to treat influenza but for most people they provide very little benefit. The virus is spread person to person through touch, sneezing and coughing. It is highly contagious. Influenza tends to occur primarily in the winter months of January through March.

Taking two to three-hour walks outdoors is my hobby. Yet walking has also been a big part of my career. For 33 years in my position with the water department, I walked 8 to 10 hours a day, then retired and came back to work for the city in parking enforcement where again I walk. My knees never really bothered me until last spring.

Lindsey knew nursing was her passion early in life. “I have always enjoyed working with people and helping them through difficult situations,” said Lindsey. “People are often very nervous when they’re heading into the operating room. It’s a big deal for them and can be stressful. I think it’s important that they have someone to answer their questions and it’s so rewarding to help them out.”

After 26 years at Mercy Health in Ohio, first as an intern and medical resident, and eventually a system leader for the Toledo region, this was a major change for me and my family.
