We tend to flock to waterways and pools during our short swimming season in Wisconsin in search of fun, sun, and relaxation. The last thing we want is to contract a nasty waterborne parasite; however, my infectious disease colleagues and I typically see a spike in waterborne intestinal illnesses in the summer because they are easily spread via busy pools, rivers, beaches, hot tubs, and waterparks.
During Men’s Health Month in June, it’s a good time to remind men to consider screening for the three most common cancers that can impact them: prostate, lung and colorectal cancer. National Cancer Institute statistics tell us that more than 1.7 million new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in the United States this year.
Countless cigarette smokers may try e-cigarettes (e-cigs) to try and quit smoking, while many young people begin using e-cigs and go on to try other kinds of drugs. E-cigarette users are introducing dangerous, untested chemicals into their bodies.

Tim Schroeder, Black Creek, had his life changed forever two years ago when he was working on the U.S. 441 bridge project and severed his arm. The Town of Menasha (now Fox Crossing) police and fire responded, applied a tourniquet and iced his arm.
While the temperatures are not very warm right now, hot weather is right around the corner. For people who exercise outside, whether participating in an organized sport or workout on their own, being prepared for those warmer temperatures is vital.

Senior citizens, in particular, are more susceptible to the danger of dehydration, so it’s important for those in their golden years to pay attention when the mercury rises.
