The community is invited to participate in an exciting groundbreaking event for the new ThedaCare Medical Center-Shawano on Thurs., July 11, from 12:30 to 3 p.m. The event is called The Big Dig and kids and adults will have the chance to crawl right into the seat of a crane, backhoe or digger.

Approximately 70 to 80 percent of new mothers experience some negative feelings or mood swings after the birth of their child. “Baby blues” hit forcefully within four to five days after the birth and often disappear within 14 days after delivery.
People need to be careful when in swimming pools, fountains, hot tubs, lakes, oceans and other bodies of water. These areas have germs that cause recreational water illnesses, which can be a wide variety of infections, including gastrointestinal, skin, ear, respiratory, eye, neurologic and wound infections.

Construction of the new $50 million ThedaCare Medical Center-Shawno was approved at the June 18 meeting of the ThedaCare Board of Trustees in Appleton. The new medical center, expected to open in early 2015, will replace the 82-year-old Shawano Medical Center and create a local center for convenient, coordinated health care.

A board-certified nurse midwife, Mary Williams, CNM, APNP, is now on the staff at Theda Clark Medical Center and Appleton Medical Center. She is part of the team at Women’s Care of Wisconsin S.C. in Neenah.

In March 2012, updated screening guidelines were released that recommend women have their first Pap test at age 21 and have screening every three years from 21-29 if the test is negative.
Imagine a small group of domestic terrorists attacking local infrastructure, leading to injuries and death, a disruption of daily life and instilling fear among area residents. It’s a scenario most people don’t want to think about, but 134 personnel from 42 healthcare and hospital facilities across Wisconsin recently dealt with that scenario during an intensive, week-long training program at the Center for Domestic Preparedness in Alabama.
