Life sometimes gets in the way of our plans to exercise daily. Lisa Malak of WFRV Channel 5 and her husband, Rookie of WDUZ 107.5 FM, know that all too well. With busy jobs, 6-year-old twins, and family health issues, getting up and moving isn’t always easy.
People who love to run can attend a free ThedaCare session, “How to Run More Efficiently & Prevent Common Injuries,” to learn how to run more efficiently and to help prevent injury, especially as they transition from winter to spring/summer running.
The 4th annual event, which is on April 26, is a 5-mile and 2-mile road run/walk for all athletes, from serious racers to those who want to go the distance.
Puberty opens the door to a lot of sensitive topics about growth and development. In April, a ThedaCare class at Riverside Medical Center (RMC) in Waupaca seeks to break down barriers so mothers and daughters can address these topics together.
Pre-diabetes is more prevalent than most people think. “It affects 35 percent of adults age 20 and older and half of Americans age 65 an older,” said Anne Menzies, Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator at Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca. People can learn more about the topic at an upcoming ThedaCare community presentation “Pre-Diabetes: What should I do?” at 6:30 p.m. on Thurs., April 3, in the lobby of the 900 building.
As spring slowly arrives, more and more people are swapping their boots for flip flops. While flip flops are great to wear to the pool or on the beach, wearing them for a prolonged period of time can lead to foot pain and problems.
A Clintonville school running club is getting an extra kick start from ThedaCare. The Longfellow Running Club received a grant from ThedaCare’s Community Health Improvement to help fund the program, which brings students together twice a week before school for training runs.
It started with a single donation by siblings Pat Prill and Jon Wilsnack of Markesan in memory of their father las March. It ended in early October with the delivery of 18 brand new automated external defibrillator (AED) units to the Green Lake County Sherrif’s Department—one for each emergency vehicle in the department’s force.
Since the Pedometer Challenge began the second week of February, no one has racked up more steps than Mark Hauser of New London. The secret to getting on average 186,000 steps during the past eight weeks? His job. He’s a mailman in New London, who works six days a week.

Countless human lives are saved every day because of the brave actions of our emergency first responders. Thank goodness for these selfless people who risk their own lives to save others!
What does IFR mean?
