Community Health Network Expands Orthopedic Services

This is due to a number of factors including weaker muscles, arthritic joints, taking multiple medications, and loss of balance as we age. Winter should be coming to a close soon and seasonal sports like skiing, snowmobiling, and ice fishing are all but done. Weather fluctuations eat away at the snow and the ice on standing bodies of water is thinning a bit each day. Thin ice creeps up on us during this time of year and deserves respect especially if you enjoy ice fishing or snowmobiling.

Measles Outbreak Can Still Happen

Measles is a viral illness that has all but been eradicated in the US thanks to an effective immunization program. Measles has become a news topic recently because of a recent outbreak linked to Disneyland in California. As of January 30th, there had been 102 cases reported this year in the US from this outbreak with no deaths. In Wisconsin there had been no cases. Measles remains a concern because it is still prevalent in other countries and is responsible for many deaths in other parts of the world.

Walking Program Expands

New London School District is trying to make walking fun and meaningful. “We really want it to become intrinsic,” said Shandee Kempf-Cohen, school counselor at Parkview and Readfield Elementary schools, which helped up the walking program in place at Parkview earlier this year.

ThedaCare Announces Addition of Hybrid Surgery

ThedaCare plans to construct and equip a new hybrid surgical suite at Appleton Medical Center in late 2015. Construction has started on the high-tech operating suite that will be used for vascular surgery, interventional cardiology, and cardiac surgery.
