Einstein’s classic definition of insanity – doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result – often applies to health care. No matter how hard we work, and how many changes any given provider system like ThedaCare effects in our safety, quality, transparency, cost, outcomes and more, health care remains driven by a fee-for-service model that encourages payers to reward services, procedures and tests generated by providers, instead of the value providers deliver.

We tend to assume that people will want all the treatment that modern medicine can provide to prolong life. Not every patient wants to have every possible treatment. We are mortal and people still die from some awful diseases for which we have no cure.

Proper cleaning and care of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machines is important to keep them running properly and help people with sleep apnea get a good night’s sleep. ThedaCare At Home respiratory therapists will focus on how to care for CPAP equipment at the next A.W.A.K.E. Sleep Apnea Support Group meeting on Tues., April 14.
ThedaCare is hosting a free community program designed to help women who are suffering from endometriosis. With plans to open in 2016, construction of the ThedaCare Regional Cancer Center is underway. The Boldt Co. construction team broke ground on the $44 million project near Encircle Health on Capitol Drive in Appleton.
ThedaCare At Home Hospice is seeking four legged volunteers for therapy dog programs in Waupaca and Appleton. “We are conducting comprehensive hospice therapy dog training this spring and are looking for qualified dogs and their owners,” said Johnson, who coordinates the program.
