Preventing Illnesses During the School Year

The start of the new school year brings new teachers, friends and, yes, germs. Children spend a lot of time together in close quarters during the school year. This increases the chance for exposure to cold, influenza and other illnesses. Families can make sure children are up-to-date with vaccinations, ensure a healthy immune system by eating a good diet, and making sure children have a good night’s sleep. There are other ways to reduce the numbers of sick days your child faces.

Play it Safe this Halloween

When it comes to Halloween, containing kids’ excitement is a real challenge. There’s decorations, costumes and candy – probably way too much of that. But even though everyone is having a lot of fun, it’s also important to play it safe. Your child isn’t likely to be chased by goblins or ghosts, but it’s possible she may trip and fall over her long princess gown or you may lose sight of him as he runs ahead of the group and into the street. As you start planning your Halloween celebration, keep these safety rules in mind so everyone has a good time.

ThedaCare Purchases Land for New Neenah Clinic

ThedaCare has purchased land for a new clinic in Neenah to replace its two family practice locations on S. Commercial Street and Tullar Road in Neenah and the endocrine and internal medicine clinics currently at Theda Clark Medical Center. The newly consolidated clinic will be located on 9.4 acres at 333 N. Green Bay Road between Main Street and Winchester Road in Neenah. Construction will begin this fall and take 10 to 12 months.

Walk to Remember Planned for Oct 3

Losing a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth or newborn birth can be devastating to parents. The Walk to Remember on Sat., Oct. 3, will remember these special children while providing hope and healing to families.

When Caught Early Preeclampsia Can Be Managed

Preeclampsia is a condition pregnant women develop and is marked by high blood pressure and a high level of protein in the urine. The women will often have swelling in the feet, legs and hands, a condition that appears in the second half of pregnancy. If undiagnosed, preeclampsia can develop into eclampsia, a serious condition that can put the woman and baby at risk, and in rare cases, cause death.

Open House for New Shawano Hospital Sept 16

The newly constructed ThedaCare Medical Center-Shawano will host a public open house on Wed., Sept. 16, from 4:15 to 7:30 p.m. at 100 County B in Shawano. Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NTWC) will also showcase its new 5,000-square-foot nurse education center, located as part of a shared learning center inside TCMC-Shawano.
