What Do We Know About the Zika Virus

You may be hearing reports of a relatively new virus that is a potential threat to people who travel to areas where this virus has been reported. The virus is known as Zika Virus. This is a virus that is transmitted by mosquitos similar to some other viral illnesses (like dengue fever.) This has been in the news recently because it has been reported recently in Central America including Mexico, Caribbean nations, and South America. Zika was initially discovered in Africa in the 1940s but in the last year it has been reported in countries in the western hemisphere.

ThedaCare and Network Health Agree to Coverage Extension

Network Health, the Wisconsin-based health insurance company, and ThedaCare, the Appleton-based community owned health system, have agreed to a contract extension for Network Health members to access ThedaCare providers through December 31, 2016, under the same terms as the current contract with no change in fees for patients.

3D Mammography Available at ThedaCare

ThedaCare recently installed the new 3D mammography machines at the Breast Center inside Encircle Health in Appleton and at the Breast Center at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center -Neenah. Providers may begin ordering 3D mammograms in February on behalf of their patients. The new screening and diagnostic tool is approved for all women who have a standard mammogram.

Children Affected by the Seasonal Affective Disorder Too

If you’re a Midwesterner, you know all about winter. While starting out exciting and beautiful, it can get “old” as the snowy season continues into March and April. As the winter begins to drag, sometimes, so do we. Along with post-holiday lull in excitement, the lack of sunlight, cold temps, grey skies can cause some people to get a little “stir crazy” or the “winter blues”. For 10-20 % of people, this can be a more significant “Seasonal Affective Disorder” or SAD.

ThedaCare Opens Deli Inside Encircle Health

Fresh Market Coffee and Deli opened inside Encircle Health at 2500 E. Capitol Drive in Appleton. The 18-seat deli and café operates in a space recently vacated by Copper Rock Coffee Company, an eatery that opened in 2010. The new deli opened last week.
