Hospital Auxiliary Has Volunteer Opportunities

About a year after Barbara Gruening’s husband passed away, she found she had time on her hands. At a women’s event in Appleton, Gruening, 81, of New London, heard the speaker ask the audience what their passion was. “I leaned over to a friend and said I don’t have a passion,” she said. “At that point in time I had been a caregiver.” But when she reflected on what she enjoyed doing, it was thoughts of the Auxiliary at ThedaCare Medical Center-New London, which she stepped away from when her husband had a stroke. She rejoined the group and has been involved since.

ThedaCare At Home Offers Sleep Mask Show

The latest styles in sleep masks are hitting the runway! ThedaCare At Home is hosting an A.W.A.K.E. Sleep Apnea Sleep Mask Style Show Support Group from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tues., April 19, at the Crystal Falls Banquet Center in New London.

“Living Well with Chronic Conditions” is a six-week workshop ideal for those with conditions such as diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure, heart disease, chronic pain or anxiety.

Sports Programs for the Male Youth Athlete

ThedaCare Orthopedic Care is offering a new sports program for young male athletes looking to improve their health and strength. “Sports Programs for the Male Youth Athlete” is designed for boys age 11-13. The six-week course runs 5:45-7:15 p.m. on Tuesdays beginning April 5.

Complete Health Improvement Program

Complete Health Improvement Program (CHIP) is designed to prevent and reverse the effects of diabetes, obesity, hypertension and high cholesterol. The CHIP program is a series of 16, two-hour classes in a combination lecture and workshop format.

Demolition of Vacant Shawano Medical Center Starts April 4

Demolition of the vacated Shawano Medical Center at 309 Bartlett Street will begin today, April 4, said John Gijsen, director of facilities management system locations for ThedaCare. In March, the Shawano Common Council approved the plan from ThedaCare to demolish the structure at its own expense after multiple redevelopment efforts for the existing building fell through.

Appleton Medical Center Becomes ThedaCare Regional Medical Center Appleton

ThedaCare today announced that Appleton Medical Center becomes ThedaCare Regional Medical Center- Appleton on Wed., April 6 The new name is part of an organization-wide rebranding effort announced two years ago so all locations throughout Wisconsin are identified with the same name. The change officially happens when the new exterior signs are installed.

Campaign for Emergency Room Near Finish

With the support of many the TogethER campaign to expand and renovate the Emergency Department at ThedaCare Medical Center-New London is almost complete. A matching program could push the momentum forward and bring a ground breaking this summer.

Waupaca Alumnus Back Home

Cassie Glodowski enjoys being back at her old alma mater, Waupaca High School. But instead of hanging out as a teenager, she is the school’s athletic trainer, employed by ThedaCare Medical Center-Waupaca. “It’s awesome,” said Glodowski, 25. “It was one of my goals from the beginning to work in the sports medicine program.”

ThedaCare Expands SANE Program

ThedaCare is expanding the SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) program at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Appleton on Fri., April 1, to offer more comprehensive coverage for victims. Nurses throughout ThedaCare will be trained for the SANE program. April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
