Cassie Glodowski enjoys being back at her old alma mater, Waupaca High School. But instead of hanging out as a teenager, she is the school’s athletic trainer, employed by ThedaCare Medical Center-Waupaca. “It’s awesome,” said Glodowski, 25. “It was one of my goals from the beginning to work in the sports medicine program.”
ThedaCare is expanding the SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) program at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Appleton on Fri., April 1, to offer more comprehensive coverage for victims. Nurses throughout ThedaCare will be trained for the SANE program. April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

In today’s healthcare industry, hospitals and doctors are treating patients and always keeping in mind first the needs of the patient and then the insurance and or Medicare rules and regulations. What does one do when they are released from the hospital three days after a knee or hip replacement, or after treated for a fall? Many patients are not able to return to their home immediately after being released from the hospital. They require additional care and therapy and often there is not a caregiver at home to provide the care they require.

Colorectal cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States for men and women combined. Every year, about 140,000 Americans are diagnosed with colorectal cancer, and more than 50,000 people die from it. “This disease is highly preventable by getting screened beginning at age 50,” said James Spencer, MD, ThedaCare Physicians-Waupaca. “Those under 50, with a family history of the disease, should also be screened.”
The best chance for survival is when the cardiac arrest is witnessed, CPR is started immediately, and there is access to advanced life saving treatment in a short time.
Next month pharmacists at ThedaCare Pharmacy-Shawano will provide inpatients at ThedaCare Medical Center-Shawano with their outpatient medications before they leave the hospital. The pharmacy, located inside ThedaCare Physicians-Shawano clinic, will launch the Meds-to-Bed program at the adjacent hospital. Meds-to-Beds is a newly developed system modeled after successful programs in larger hospitals, including Froedtert in Milwaukee.

ThedaCare today announced that Theda Clark Medical Center becomes ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Neenah on Wed., March 23. The new name is part of an organization-wide rebranding effort announced nearly two years ago so all locations throughout Wisconsin are identified with the same name.
The 7th Annual ThedaCare Foundation-New London Sturgeon Shuffle continues its mission to raise money to be used to support local community programs that improve the health and well-being of the communities. “This is a great event to get the entire family out to focus on a fun fitness activity,” said Heather Stern, executive director of the Foundation. “It's always a fun-filled day for all who attend."

The Auxiliary at ThedaCare Care Medical Center-New London is hoping book lovers also have a sweet tooth. The Auxiliary will host a bake sale in addition to a book sale on Mon., April 4. “Bake sales always seem to go well,” said Barbara Gruening, president, noting bake sale success during the annual fall Bazaar.

Area first responders and ThedaCare hospitals are the first in Wisconsin to use a new app-like program that helps EMS caring for a heart attack patient focus on care and better prepares the hospital – saving valuable time and increasing the chance of survival. ThedaCare is the first in the state to implement Pulsara, a standardized communication protocol that performs like an app, to simplify the response for ST-Segment Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) heart attack patients.

When the ThedaCare Foundation-Berlin board met last month, it was a unanimous vote to give their approval to the Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office grant application submitted by Sheriff Mark A. Podoll for funds for two K-9 units. The board agreed to give $14,000 to the department to become of the lead sponsors for the K-9 program.
