Volunteers are in the spotlight for their wonderful service
This month, we want to pause and say “Thanks!” to our volunteers. They work at many locations throughout the ThedaCare system, and their dedication and big smiles help all of us put the customer first. They help in our hospitals, our gift stores, hospice and many other areas. They also fund student scholarships and other important projects.
Did you know that our volunteers donated almost 150,000 hours of time system-wide last year? Using the most recent estimated value of volunteer time from the Independent Sector, that equates to more than $3 million dollars! A pretty incredible number, though not quite as incredible as some of the individuals who volunteer:
- Pat Walbrun volunteers at the main and north entrance information desks at Theda Clark Medical Center, and at the Print Center. “You can see Pat’s compassion for people every time she is with a patient or visitor,” said Janis Ackerman, manager of volunteer services for Theda Clark and Appleton Medical Center (AMC). “She will come in and help whenever she is called.”
- Husband and wife team Don and Kathleen Siedler greet visitors together every Monday and Friday morning at AMC’s east care pavilion information desk. They also act as escorts, taking patients to their destinations throughout the hospital after registration, or transporting patients from units to various departments for procedures. Don also volunteers to install Lifeline units in patient homes and is a member of the AMC Volunteer Board of Directors. Kathleen volunteers for special projects.
In addition to adult volunteers, several of our facilities have student volunteers.
National Volunteer Week is April 21-27. So, if you see a volunteer behind our desks or in our halls this month, let them know how much they’re appreciated!
