For ICU RN Sarah life is about teamwork variety and making a difference in patients lives

No two days are the same for Sarah, a registered nurse in the intensive care unit at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center–Appleton. And that’s just the way she likes it.

No two days are the same for Sarah, a registered nurse in the intensive care unit at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center–Appleton. And that’s just the way she likes it.

“I really enjoy the variety of patients we see each day,” said Sarah. “I got into nursing because I wanted to help people when they couldn’t help themselves. It’s very rewarding.”

Sarah graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and has been working in her current role with ThedaCare for 1.5 years. “I worked as a certified nursing assistant here until I received my degree,” she said. “I knew ThedaCare was a great place to work when I was here as a CNA. The teamwork is excellent. I truly enjoy the camaraderie with my co-workers.”

When she’s not working with patients, you might find Sarah hiking the trails at High Cliff State Park or painting a landscape. But she really loves working with her patients most of all. Recently she cared for a gentleman who had a heart attack. His wife and two young children were scared about the life changes ahead, but Sarah patiently answered all their questions. A few days later, the kids dropped off a lovely thank-you card. “I was really touched,” said Sarah. “For a brief moment, I had a positive impact on their lives and that’s very special.”

For others considering a nursing career at ThedaCare, she said there are many opportunities. “Nursing is a wonderful career,” continued Sarah. “My advice would be to do what you love – and ThedaCare will find a way to help you be successful.”
