Losing a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth or newborn birth can be devastating to parents. The Walk to Remember on Sat., Oct. 3, will remember these special children while providing hope and healing to families.
Registration for the walk at the Gordon Bubolz Nature Preserve, 4815 N. Lynndale Drive, Appleton, begins at 12:30 p.m. The approximate one-mile walk starts at 1 p.m. In addition to the walk, a short meditation and music will be featured and a tree will be planted in honor of all the children lost. ThedaCare’s Remembering Through Sharing Pregnancy Loss Program will display its memory quilts and there will be space for small mementos that families may have. Refreshments will be served. The event will be held rain or shine.
October is National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month and participating in the walk is a tradition for many families, said Joan Gruenstern Heller, the coordinator of Remembering Through Sharing, a support group for parents who experience a miscarriage or infant loss.
“Many people don’t have the opportunity to express their grief and remember their children, especially if the loss happened through miscarriage. The Walk to Remember is a time for parents to celebrate their children and remember the special place they hold in their hearts,” she said. “Whether the loss happened recently or years ago, all families are welcome. We want everyone attending to leave with a sense of healing and peace.”
The Walk to Remember is sponsored by ThedaCare’s Remembering Through Sharing Program, Affinity Health System, and the Children’s Health Alliance of Wisconsin-Infant Death Center.
