Knee pain is a common complaint, affecting people of all ages. The pain can be the result of an injury like torn cartilage or medical conditions like arthritis, gout and infections. Minor knee pain can be treated with physical therapy or braces. In some cases, surgery may be required.
A free ThedaCare community program is designed to help people who suffer from knee pain. John Lindstrom, MD, will talk about how to eliminate knee pain and become physically active again. “I cannot assure people that they will have no knee pain,” said Dr. Lindstrom, a physician and surgeon with ThedaCare Orthopedic Care in New London. “Reducing existing pain is the goal.”
Dr. Lindstrom will discuss the causes of knee pain and a variety of non-surgical options, such as therapy or injections to the joint, and surgical options such as arthroscopic and knee replacements. “I will emphasize the role we can play to help and the role the individual can play to help also,” Dr. Lindstrom said.
Signs and symptoms that sometimes accompany knee pain include swelling and stiffness; redness and warmth to the touch; weakness or instability; popping or crunching noises; or inability to fully straighten the knee.
- The free program is from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Tues., Dec. 3 in the Wolf River Room at New London Family Medical Center. Anyone dealing with knee pain is invited to attend.
