ThedaCare Announces Plans to Expand COVID-19 Vaccines to Primary Care Clinics

ThedaCare is committed to the practice of consistent, reliable and effective distribution of vaccines to patients and community members throughout all of Northeast and Central Wisconsin.

Just over 50% of Wisconsin residents have received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, as of July 9, 2021, according to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. ThedaCare has administered nearly 75,000 vaccines from December 24, 2020 through July 12, 2021.

“It’s encouraging to see the number of Wisconsinites who have received their vaccine from ThedaCare, from other health systems and public health partners,” said Dr. Mark Cockley, ThedaCare Chief Clinical Officer. “Yet, as the Delta Variant of the virus continues to spread rapidly throughout the United States, it remains important that those who can be vaccinated, do so.”

To ensure coordination and continue ThedaCare’s long history of delivering vaccines safely and effectively, the system will begin offering COVID-19 vaccines at select Primary Care Clinics, while continuing to offer doses at three designated vaccine clinics.

“By offering the vaccine at more locations, it ensures our patients and community members have convenient options and easy access to the protection against COVID-19,” said Dr. Cockley. “If a person needs to receive just the COVID-19 vaccine, the designated vaccine clinic is a good option. If a patient would like to receive the vaccine during a wellness visit, such as an annual physical or a child’s sports physical, or any other visit not associated with as significant illness, that is another opportunity. Our goal is to ensure a smooth, easy process for all who choose to receive their vaccine.” COVID-19 vaccines will be available at the following primary care clinic locations during a patient’s office visit:

ThedaCare will also continue offering three vaccine clinics at ThedaCare Physicians-Appleton Gateway, ThedaCare Physicians-Neenah and ThedaCare Medical Center-Waupaca.

For the convenience of community members, ThedaCare utilizes a direct scheduling process. No vaccine order is required for the direct scheduling process. Patients will have the opportunity to select a vaccine manufacturer, if there is a preference, along with the available appointment time and location that best suits them. ThedaCare only recommends vaccines that are deemed to be safe.

All Wisconsinites ages 12 and older are eligible to receive the vaccine. Currently, Pfizer is the only COVID-19 vaccine authorized for people age 12 and older. Moderna and Johnson & Johnson are authorized for people age 18 and older.

ThedaCare is working to get all primary care clinics approved to distribute the COVID-19 vaccine by early August 2021.

“The health and safety of patients, team members and the community, are our number one priority,” said Dr. Cockley. “As we work through the vaccine process, we urge all members of our communities to continue safe behaviors to slow the spread of the virus.”
