Construction Continues At ThedaCare Medical Center-Oshkosh

Exterior Work Nearing Completion, Recruiting for Team Members Ongoing

Construction progress is on track at the new ThedaCare health campus in Oshkosh. ThedaCare Medical Center-Oshkosh will expand convenient access to care for those living in northeast and central Wisconsin. The health care system broke ground on the hospital in March 2024.

ThedaCare Medical Center-Oshkosh is located at 250 W. 6th Avenue on the Fox River in downtown Oshkosh, and complements the area’s major redevelopment and revitalization efforts.

ThedaCare developed plans for the site after research identified that additional services were needed for the community.

“As we were planning, we found that nearly 73% of Oshkosh’s residents live east of Interstate 41, while most of the current health care services are located west,” explained Lynn Detterman, North Region President, Froedtert ThedaCare Health. “That means those living on the east-side of the Oshkosh area are more than 15 minutes away from a hospital or emergency room. We know during emergency situations, time is critical. That is what led us to create the campus at the current site – to meet people where they are.”

Construction Moving Forward

Significant progress has been made at the health campus since the groundbreaking. Some of the major construction milestones include:

  • Flooring installation has been started.
  • First coats of paint have been applied.
  • Vinyl wallcovering within the hospital is underway.
  • Exterior glass at the hospital is complete.
  • Asphalt paving is taking place.
  • Landscaping has begun.
  • Concrete curbs are complete, and site sidewalks are nearing completion.

The Oshkosh health campus is expected to be complete in late 2025.

Designed to Enhance Care

ThedaCare Medical Center-Oshkosh will provide comprehensive care 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Emergency and inpatient care will be offered.

When complete, it is projected to be approximately 114,000 sq. ft., with an estimated $84M investment. The hospital will feature emergency care, inpatient beds and 24/7 coverage. Hospital plans also call for comprehensive radiology services including CT scans, x-ray, ultrasound, mammography, MRI, nuclear medicine, cardiac stress testing, echocardiography and lab services.

Also included in plans are a drive-thru retail pharmacy, ambulatory surgery center with operating rooms, and a medical office building for primary care, pediatrics and specialties.

“The new campus also rounds out clinical care we have been providing the Oshkosh community for years, including cancer care, behavioral health, urgent care, orthopedics, physical therapy, primary care, pediatrics and more,” said Jenny Nikolai, MBA, FACHE, PMP, Vice President of ThedaCare Medical Centers-Fond du Lac and Oshkosh. “This site will allow our teams to continue caring for the people in the Oshkosh area and provide the level of expertise they deserve.”

To adapt to the changing needs of the community, ThedaCare updated plans for the health campus and added a 28,000-square-foot third floor to the original design. More services may be added over time based on community need.

“When we designed the campus, we developed it around patients and families, creating a great health care experience when they visit us,” said Detterman. “The intentional design of the campus ties to our overall strategy of meeting patients where they area – providing the right care, in the right place, at the right time.”
