Kelli Heindel, MD, Receives 2015 Family Physician of the Year Award

ThedaCare family physician Kelli Heindel, MD, MS, FAAFP, received the 2015 Family Physician of the Year Award from the Wisconsin Academy of Family Physicians.

Dr. Heindel has been a family physician for more than 20 years and sees patients at ThedaCare Physicians-Appleton North, which is located inside Encircle Health. She also volunteers at a local clinic providing care to underserved patients and serves as a mentor to students thinking about or pursuing a career in medicine.

Dr. Heindel said she is committed to helping establish a work/life balance for doctors, especially for new doctors coming out of residency. “I think they all tire of hearing me say, 'It's a marathon, not a sprint,' but generally all have been appreciative of the advice and role modeling, and I would like to hope that means they will then be with our group and the community for very long and productive careers,” she said.

Dr. Heindel’s colleagues at ThedaCare Physicians-Appleton North also praised her leadership as the practice’s assistant medical director.

“She is truly a team player, evidenced by her support of our physicians, associate providers, and staff,” said Melanie J. Rohloff, MD. “She has been instrumental in making important changes in clinical practice by working closely with leaders of our organization.”
