Orthopedic Surgeon Enjoys Waupaca Patients

Snow and cold continue to grip the area but those were not what brought Dr. Brett Young to Wisconsin.

Brett Young, MD, Specializes in Arthroscopic Surgery & Joint Replacement

Snow and cold continue to grip the area but those were not what brought Dr. Brett Young to Wisconsin.

“It ultimately came down to the people,” said Dr. Young, an orthopaedic surgeon with ThedaCare Orthopedics based in Neenah, which offers outreach clinics to patients at Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca. “Some of my colleagues in medical school were going into practice in Appleton. That’s what really cemented me going back to Wisconsin.”

He grew up in Kansas and Seattle, went to medical school in Milwaukee and completed his residency in Texas. Dr. Young has been in practice in Northeast Wisconsin since 2002. He specializes in arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery as well as hip and knee replacement and other minimally invasive procedures such as rotator cuff repair and ACL reconstruction. “I like being able to fix things with my hands,” said Dr. Young. “I like working with the various age groups. I work with the whole spectrum, which is enjoyable.”

He treats patients like family members. “I am fairly conservative,” he said. “If there is a way to take care of an issue non-surgically, I try to approach it that way. If there is a need for surgery, I approach it in the most thorough way possible. I also try to provide the most comprehensive care that I can.”

He also cares for the patient from beginning to end of the whole process “not just tell them we’ve done surgery and it’s time to move on.”

Dr. Young enjoys working with the patients in Waupaca. “They very much appreciate someone coming out and doing things in their community,” he said. “It’s rewarding in that I think people are more appreciative of receiving a high level of care that they can get in their backyard.”
