When Evan Oberg started working at ThedaCare two years ago, he hoped to find a place where he could make a difference. But he didn’t know he would find a second family.
“Four years ago, after a midnight run to the emergency room, I ended up having my appendix removed at ThedaCare,” said Oberg. “I had such a positive experience that I knew I had to be a part of the organization one day and now I can’t wait to come to work every day.”
Oberg is a lead sterile processing technician at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Appleton. He loves that each day is different. “The hustle and bustle, that’s a part of the job that is exciting,” he continued, “part of our job is to make sure everything is in order for our doctors and staff before the patient arrives in the operating room and the surgery process begins. We also need a quick turnaround on processing the instruments and operating rooms to keep everyone on schedule. I like the fast pace.”
This is a field that’s constantly changing and Oberg appreciates that ThedaCare is committed to continually training and updating processes to improve the patient experience. “We all have opportunities to grow and improve,” he said. “As we become more knowledgeable about how cases are done and how each doctor works, we are able to become better and better at our jobs. And that’s good for everyone.”
He especially enjoys the team he works with at ThedaCare. “We’re a close-knit group, all focused on providing the best care possible for our patients,” said Oberg. “In some ways, it’s like having a second family.”
