Surgeon to Guide Trauma Care at ThedaCare Neenah Hospital
David J. Schultz, MD, FACS, has been named medical director for the Level II Trauma Center at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Neenah.
Since 2009, Dr. Schultz has been co-medical director of ThedaStar air medical and an attending surgeon at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Neenah and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin-Fox Valley. He is also a partner with Surgical Associates of Neenah.
Dr. Schultz received his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from the University of Illinois-Chicago and his medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago. He completed his surgical residency at Medical College of Wisconsin Affiliated Hospitals in Milwaukee. Dr. Schultz is also chair of the Regional Committee on Trauma and an American College of Surgeons site reviewer.
Dr. Schultz is also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a position requiring devotion to surgical practice and adherence to the college’s ethical standards. Fellows must graduate from a medical school accepted by the college, certified by the American Board of Medical Specialty, hold an unrestricted medical license to practice and be a specialist in surgery.
Dr. Schultz replaces Ray Georgen, MD, who started the trauma program at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Neenah, with surgeon Dan Thearle, MD, in 1989. Dr. Georgen guided the Trauma Center for more than 25 years. During his leadership, the Trauma Center became the third center to be verified by the American College of Surgeons in Wisconsin – and the first Trauma Center outside of Milwaukee and Madison – and also became the first Level II Trauma Center in Wisconsin.
