Fang Volunteers, Influences Young Physicians in Training

The University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health recently presented YuChin Fang, MD, ’98, its Max Fox Preceptor Award. She is a family doctor at ThedaCare Physicians-Clintonville.

The award is given annually to an outstanding preceptor, or clinical instructor, whose selfless service as a mentor and teacher has guided UW-Madison medical students and graduates. Some 50 doctors across the Badger State volunteer in the preceptor program. Many students consider this the capstone experience of their medical education and note that it serves as a springboard into residency education.

Dr. Fang joined ThedaCare Physicians 1998 as a family practice physician. In Dr. Fang, students witness the life of a physician deeply engaged in her patients’ lives and her community.

Dr. Fang received her medical degree from the University of Wisconsin Medical School and completed her residency at the University of Wisconsin Family Practice Residency Program in Eau Claire.

Dr. Paul Hunter, MD, medical student program director at the University of Wisconsin Department of Family Medicine, will present Dr. Fang her award at Shawano Medical Center on August 18.

The Max Fox Preceptor Award was created by Dr. Herman Shapiro in 1969 to honor his preceptor, Dr. Max Fox. During his 46 years of practicing medicine, Fox greatly influenced the careers of some 4,000 physicians. The annual award honors Wisconsin physicians for their outstanding service as student preceptors.
