Waupaca Area Residents Can Learn Life Saving Skills

Cynthia Arnoldussen has been teaching CPR classes for over eight years in the Waupaca area and surrounding communities to those young and old. “These are critical life skills, arming students to save lives,” she said. “Everyone should have these skills.”

She has taught the classes, which are four hour-long sessions, at dental offices, churches, health centers. “CPR is also taught in the Safe Sitters class available through Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca,” said Arnoldussen. “The New London School District’s superintendent believes CPR is a valuable skill and wants all her employees to have the class so they are also being trained.”

She recently led a training at Riverview Dental. “They were happy with the class and they were great students,” she said.

The classes cover CPR and Choking Rescue for Adult, Child and Infant. There are three levels of classes available: Healthcare Provider, Family and Friends, and Heartsaver AED.

Depending on the type of class they take, participants may have a practical and/or written test or no test at all. They receive a card upon completion. Students need to recertify every two years, except for those who take the Family and Friends level.

Arnoldussen said signing up for a class is easy. Classes are generally scheduled within a month or two out. “For most classes we can teach six students,” she said, noting the family and friends class can be a larger group.

The cost is the same for two students as for six so they are really best off to have six, added Arnoldussen. “This can be for the public as well, but we have to have enough students in the class to make it worth their pay charge,” she said.

Those interested in CPR and Choking Rescue classes can call ThedaCare Central Scheduling: Phone number: 920-738-6521 option 1.

“I am certainly willing to educate anyone,” said Arnoldussen.
